Brian is a journalism student at Kwantlen Polytechnic University in Surrey, British Columbia. He covers high school, CCAA, CIS, and NCAA basketball throughout the Lower Mainland.
In grade 11, while playing for his high school team, Brian asked his coach about who wrote the team’s weekly recaps in The Coast Reporter. To which his coach replied “Well if you think you can do better, then you write them.”
Since then, he has combined his life-long love for the game with his passion for writing, and has had his work published in The Squamish Chief, The Runner, North Pole Hoops, as well as coverage of the 2013 provincial election for The Vancouver Sun.
Brian currently serves as the B.C. provincial analyst for North Pole Hoops, associate sports editor for The Runner, and still occasionally contributes to The Coast Reporter.
His favourite sports journalists include David Halberstam, Bill Simmons, Scoop Jackson, Jonathan Abrams, Jack McCallum and Rick Telander.
He still plays the sport he loves, but admits that his jumper and handles have taken a nosedive since his high school days.
Brian is currently in his fourth year of Kwantlen’s Bachelor’s of Journalism program, and will graduate in the spring of 2014.
